# IRC Hosts and Their Meanings #### IRC Hosts and Their Meanings All registered members on our IRC network are given a "vhost", or "virtual host". This is a mask overlaid on some of your connection information such as IP address or connecting host with more human-readable text. It is a quick way for us to tell what permission group a particular member is a part of, and to provide a basic level of information privacy, when combined with other systems. Anyone who does not have a "vhost" on our network is given a pseudo-randomized IP string that masks their true connection information from non-admins. Below, you can find the most common vhosts you'll see on our network.
